Even though the internet has plenty of sites offering images that are available as fine art prints, it's only when you see the Giclée print mounted, framed and in its final destination can you really appreciate what you have. It doesn't matter how big or fancy your screen is, reality is always better and how the final artwork looks within the environment in which it has been installed is how it will be remembered by the people who see it.
It's important that the framed print doesn't look lost on the wall, yet it mustn't dominate the room either (degrees of domination may be a matter of personal taste though). The viewing distance of a print will have a profound effect on how it will be perceived; you need to be close enough to appreciate the detail, yet far enough away to view the print as a whole to take in the entire subject be it an object, a scene or even completely abstract.
Does the print complement the other colours in the room? Do they clash or distract from you art? Also be aware that the walls, ceilings and furniture can all bounce colour into your picture affecting the way it looks (this can even happen at art fairs where the exhibition stands tend to be very close together and can be packed with artwork).
In the section on how to care for your print, I talk about the importance of keeping the print out of direct sunlight as this can degrade the inks over time. If the glass in your frame is reflective then this can interrupt the viewing experience, especially where there are strong bright lights. The colour of those lights is also important; tungsten lights tend to be very yellow so will have a warming effect on your print. If your windows are on the shadow side of your apartment or house then the light coming through them will tend to be blue, which will have a cooling effect on the colours printed.
The video here is a very short tour of a print that is hanging in a neutral tone environment. This frame is A1 sized over a king size bed and can be bought from my online gallery. If you want help deciding where to put a print do get in touch as I will be happy to try and help.
